Riddara Electric Pickups for Farming: Hauling, Towing and Power in the Field

A look at Riddara electric pickups from a farmer's perspective: payload, towing, water wading capability and using vehicle power in the field

Riddara Electric Pickups for Farming: Hauling, Towing and Power in the Field

Ayutthaya and central Thailand are among the country's key agricultural regions, where a pickup is more a tool for earning a living than just a vehicle. The question is whether an electric pickup like the Riddara is ready for heavy work in rice fields and orchards. This article looks at it based on the specifications released by the brand.

Hauling and towing

Information presented by Riddara at Motor Show 2026 states that both the RD6 and ECON can carry around 1,030 kg. For the four-wheel-drive ECON, specifications list a payload of up to 1,235 kg. For towing, rear-wheel-drive versions can tow 2,500 kg and four-wheel-drive versions up to 3,000 kg — enough for produce trailers, small boats or some types of farm machinery. Actual payload figures may vary by variant, so check the vehicle documents before use.

Instant torque and rough-terrain capability

Electric motors deliver maximum torque instantly from a standstill, allowing smooth climbs up steep slopes or starts on loose soil with a fully loaded bed. The four-wheel-drive RD6 offers driving modes for sand, mud, off-road and wading, with a maximum wading depth of 815 mm, while the rear-wheel-drive version is rated at 500 mm. Ground clearance of around 220 to 225 mm suits typical gravel roads and paddy field embankments.

Power in the field

An advantage combustion pickups don't have is the RD6's power outlet in the cargo bed, delivering around 6 kW, which can be used for:

  • Small water pumps for irrigating vegetable plots
  • Electric sprayers or lawn mowers
  • Lighting for pre-dawn harvesting
  • Tools for maintaining greenhouses and fences

For deep-well pumps or large three-phase motors, there is no confirmed information that the vehicle can supply three-phase power, so consult an electrician before use

Costs farmers should calculate

Riddara estimates that driving 100 km a day, an electric pickup can save up to around 5,500 baht per month in energy costs compared with a diesel pickup. Actual figures depend on electricity rates and driving habits, but for those who already have rooftop solar, the cost per kilometer could be much lower still. The ECON also has a service interval of every 20,000 km, with the brand quoting a cost of only around 1,000 baht per visit.

The key consideration is range per charge. If you work within a reasonable radius of home and return to charge every night, an electric pickup is an excellent fit for farm work.
